Hi! My name is Sammy Lyu, based in London. I’m currently studying SideFX Houdini and Nuke to pursue a career as an effects artist. I also freelance as a camera operator and cinematographer.

Over the past few years, I've learnt that producing good work and having an organised schedule for stud and work are the same. Being a creative isn't just about mastering the technical skills required, it's also about putting in the hours, approaching every job with a professional and inquisitive mindset and respecting the people you work with.
Personally, I've always wanted to work in the film or games industry, so I went and got as many certificates as possible, volunteered on countless projects. All this, in order to develop my passion into a solid career in film and visual effects.
Now I realise that it's not just about taking on as much work as possible, but picking your battle and what you put your energy into. Which is why I am currently devoted to my studies with the goal of mastering two essential industry standard programs, Houdini and Nuke.
I always looked up to and learned from classics like Cloverfield and District 9 or early CG films like Robert Zemeckis's Beowulf growing up as I am a strong believer in learning from past pioneers.
Before deciding to venture into film visual effects. I got lost and ended up graduating twice with an MA (Hons) in Business management and Economics and an MSc in Cybersecurity Management. I have no regrets there.
I had a huge interest video games and music, especially the Elder Scrolls series and Fall Out Boy, which inspired my current interest in the 3D, CGI and creative storytelling.
My current hobbies include voice acting (Words come out of my mouth and sometimes I can't control them), keeping fish and golf.
